I just flashed over this:
phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ system-image-cli -i
current build number: 220
device name: mako
channel: ubuntu-touch/devel-proposed/here
last update: 2015-06-13 20:38:24
version version: 220
version ubuntu: 20150613
version device: 20150529.1

Why is there no response to this bug? I am having the same problem.
My machine is working, but I am afraid to reboot. I have no idea what initiated
the problem, but I get it every time I install updated packages.

I got that image by following the example on the dev.u.c website so you
might need to update that.

Thanks for the system-image-cli output. It seems you're running a
pretty old image. I would suggest bringing
Updated to latest upstream again.

@spear: How are you determining KDE compositor OpenGL version apart from
kinfocenter?
After some research, my OpenGL 2.x issue may be due to the fact that r300
doesn't fully support GL_ARB_texture_non_power_of_two:
Possibly related: KDE Plasma doesn't seem to detect that my r300 is
OpenGL 2.x compatible. I'm basing this on the lack of an Invert
Desktop Effect, as described here:

I don't think so, no.
It's this:

which looks quite different to the pictures on the page that you linked to.
