Hello,
I installed Trusty on a Dell Inspiron 5537 laptop, yet it fails to
boot beyond the plymouth animation.
So I booted in recovery mode, and done the following:
* Enabled network
* Dropped to root shell, and started gdm from there.
* Return back to recovery menu, and
I forgot to mention that pressing CTRL+ALT+F[1-6] wouldn't work !

Thank you for the quick reply. I'm running VMware over windows. I'm using
the default audio backend. This issue wasn't there with previous instanced
of Ubuntu I've used in VMware. I've reinstalled another instance of Ubuntu
on VMware and there's less Audio chopping, but it's still

Funny thing, I installed lightdm (with --no-install-recommends), and
tried it, but it won't work. It wouldn't even start manually.
Anyways, after I removed lightdm and then rebooted. Now gdm starts on
boot.

I have the same problem in 13.04 and when recently upgraded to 13.10.
Swap does not mount regardless for the several solutions I found
elsewhere! Hopefully someone will come up with useful solution.
It worth mentioning that Gparted see the swap partition as Unknown and
you cannot format it again
