Confirming that Disabling Compiz and temporarily using metacity for

The problem does also occur if I plug-in the external monitor _after_
the laptop has booted. If I then go to the Gnome Display Preferences

I just installed the 2.6.30-kernel and
- I seem to have no more problems with VT switches
- my Intel graphics performance is not only back at intrepid level (was
down to 20% in jaunty) but now it's about 20% BETTER than it was with
intrepid
- I can't seem to reproduce any freezes
Me is happy.
Problem still present with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu9.4

- Downloaded the alpha-2 image _again_
- Put it on _another usb-stick_
- Tried to boot _another laptop_ (IBM T43p) with it
Same Error. ( The only difference: it's not sd:6:0:0:0: [sdb] but
sd:2:0:0:0: [sdb] )

I downloaded karmic-desktop-i386.iso and used usb-creator ... well ...
to create a boot-able usb stick since my X60s doesn't have a CD drive.
Booting works fine until the init process starts. Then I receive these

These last for hours.

I used the one from that link here:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.10/ . I downloaded it again (to
ensure the image hasn't been corrupted) and used usb-creator again with
deactivated persistent file system feature but the result is the same.

Did you modify your xorg.conf i.e. as a workaround for the Intel driver
performance loss? In case you still wanna try Compiz would you - at a
freeze - press alt-sysreq-k many times (5-10) and wait 1 or 2 minutes?
Sometimes I have to wait for the above described reaction, too.
Same situation - freeze!
Surfing the site spiegel.de with *firefox* and watching a video with
*gmplayer* and the systems freezes.
I might have to tell that I'm using the Flashblock plugin in version
1.5.10. This time a got the system to this stage here:

Today - on my machine with the intel graphics chip - I experienced a
second freeze that again stood out a little. Luckily a camera was in
grabbing range :P
This is the second freeze in a row that happened while activating the

Got a new laptop at work last week (T61p), installed Jaunty ... now

things are different than on my X60s (see above):

I've just had a freeze last night.
My machine *reacted* on ALT+SysRq+K.
After I pressed that combination a black screen with a wide blue stripe
on the right side appeared including thin purple stripes and that screen
stayed there.
So I tried that key combo for 5 additional times. After the 5th
ALT+SysRq+K does work for me. Tested is yesterday.

After I enjoyed my very last freeze one minute ago I noticed that I have
to add something:
My mouse still moves!
Of course I can't klick anything because really everything else seems frozen -
like
- X
- leaving X and using a real console
- pressing CAPS or NUM LOCK...
- SSH-ing on the machine

After I suspend or hibernate my X60s it wakes up_but with a restarted X
session_. This is of course very annoying since this a laptop and pretty
much all work I do with it is X related.
Everything worked fine with Intrepid - problem occurred after upgrade to
