Occasionally my laptop fails to suspend with a lid close. I always get this
message in syslog or kernal.log:

But it usually continues and suspends successfully. This time there was

FYI, this all worked well with this monitor and a different computer
running 18.04. I upgraded the computer, but kept the same monitor &
installed 18.04.

I booted up from the live disk again (18.04). The lock screen button
does work. When locking the screen, the screen does go dark after about
a minute and stays dark. I tested the regular display power management
again, it doesn't stay dark.
What would control the display power if xfce power
I actually didn't try to lock the screen from the live CD.
light-locker is not running.

sudo -s

It seems to be permanent :)

After formatting under 12.04, I didn't try to use the disk under 14.04 in a
plain ext* format...
While running 12.04 I ran 'cryptsetup luksFormat', which ran successfully, I
wrote a couple of files and read them. Then back in 14.04, similar to before,
couldn't read the disk. I could mount

Trying to reformat Maxtor USB external hard drive. This was formated with an
encrypted partition, but since I was having trouble accessing that I thought I
would start over clean.
When running gparted there are numorous errors but it get to the end and says
