This affects me as well. Started noticing it on 9.10, and it has
persisted since upgrading to 10.04. Reading from a SMB share with gvfs
results in about 1.6mb/sec over 100mbit lan. The behavior is the same

I have another X2 running Hardy LTS (i386) and haven't noticed this
behavior before with cpu frequency scaling.. for reference,

Public bug reported:
I have several samba shares bookmarked in Nautilus. When I use the

suspend/resume, the desktop shortcuts are still there, but no longer
work. The error is Could not mount smb://blah/blah, Error: Invalid

I can't speak to what is valid in xorg.conf, but I know I need to fix up
xorg.conf to make the touchpad on my Latitude D600 usable in X. If you
add/change xorg.conf as above, make sure you reference the touchpad in
the ServerLayout section as well:

I understand it is frustrating not having an easy to use interface to
get proper touchpad performance. I've reverted to Hardy from Intrepid
due to other issues, but I didn't have touchpad issues with my
xorg.conf.
Try something like this in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

I'm going to vote for gpm being an issue too. I've given up on this
getting fixed properly soon, and went back to 8.04. I don't have any
issues with input and the OSD for the screen brightness works fine.
Just to be clear, DOWNGRADING the distribution works, but not
downgrading the kernel, which
Maybe this is a regression in 3.0.3? I just finished setting up a fresh
install of Hardy (i386) , and finished applying all updates, and have
this issue with Firefox 3.0.3..

In this screen shot from intrepid, notice how the folder icons for the
bookmarked places are in the left pane of the nautilus window, then look
at the icons in gnome-panel. This behavior is not seen with the default
Human icon theme, but is seen others such as Tango and Tangerine. Might

If there was existing code in the kernel to fix the bug on Dell
Latitudes, why did it stop working in Intrepid? I didn't have this
problem in Gutsy or Hardy. (Dell D600) This seems like a regression of
some sort, or am I missing something?

I have been experiencing this as well with Intrepid on a D600 as well.
In fact I didn't realize the problem was related to the use of Fn +
hotkeys to change the brightness, until googling the issue. When the
issue occurs, the menus in the panel will not open. Clicking the mouse

I just wanted to add that I uninstalled VMware workstation 6.0.3, and
installed Server 1.0.4, which is quite old by now, on my AMD64 Hardy
box, and I still have the same problem. So although it's not fair to
say this isn't a VMWare problem, the problem is occuring somewhere
outside VMWare... ie
Anyone try reverting to Vmware Server 1.0.4 to confirm this is
definately a VMware problem ? I believe you will need the any-any patch
to test this on Hardy, though.

I have experienced the exact same thing as the last commenter, BobNJ, twice(
I'm not a fast learner). I don't have any other OS, but the machine works fine
otherwise.
After changing /etc/default/acpi-support to use ACPI_SLEEP_MODE=standby, it
works fine, although no suspend-to-ram (obviously).
