I have found that when I disconnect a cable that goes from the mainboard to a
flash card reader (the yellow one, because there is a green one that goes to
the car reader that doesn't need to be disconnected), the message dissapears.

The same happened to me with Debian Lenny, and now with Ubuntu lucid.
With debian I ended up disabling ehci_hcd driver, and consecuently,
having low speed on USB ports. With previous versions of Debian it
didn't happened, and with versions of Ubuntu prior to 2007. I think it
is a kernel problem
I have the same problem, but in step 2 I read from an NTFS-mounted
filesystem, via ntfs-3g driver. The directory is not hidden.
