Adding 'pcie_aspm=force' to stock Natty install on a Toshiba L305-S5937 decreased the heat significantly. This laptop is now usable in Natty without literally burning. Battery consumption has also increased from one to about two hours. I have observed no freezing after the latest stable updates. I

Interestingly enough, a similar problem now occurs in Xara that did not before 10.10. If you scroll in any direction, outlines of the shapes remain in place and do not refresh until you scroll back again. Perhaps there is a relationship. Someone mentioned that Rhythmbox has a similar issue.
