The only suggestion I have is to run nslookup www.cnn.com when problem occurs.
You os does not give us a ip address for www.cnn.com, we cannot do much about

I cannot access a Toshiba 80GB USB Storage Device with Feisty.
'dmesg' is reporting it, but 'lsusb' is hanging the command prompt, it
is not returning anymore, I have to just close the terminal window.
I am quoting here the relevant portion of 'demsg' output, after I
plugged it:
