common solves it, but the user can't be expected to know it.
What about File-Wizards-Letter showing a dialog that explains what needs
to be installed? Right not it is silently failing, which is very bad

The laptop I am using (acer aspire 5633WLMi) has two webcams: one is the
one which is integrated right above the lcd, listed by lsusb as Bus 001
Device 006: ID 046d:0896 Logitech, Inc. OrbiCam. I suspect this webcam
could be physically broken, and was actually using cheese to
investigate. :-)

Hmm... strange, after installing the restricted drivers for the nvidia
video card and after an apt-get dist-upgrade (which did not involve
linux-image, though= the system seems to be able to boot normally.
It should still be fixed, though, since it prevents installing from the
desktop iso image:

Yes and no... epiphany does not offer to save the password anymore (even
if the option to remember passwords is enabled), so the untranslated
dialog is not shown anymore. But I guess this is not the inteded
behaviour, since this way I am not able to have epiphany save any
passwords anymore.

It happens with all the filed I've tried to upload so far. I'm sure of
having experienced the problem when asking f-spot to resize the image
before exporting it to flickr but if I remember correctly the problem
stays even if no image resizing is required.

My host machine has two network interfaces.

Syncing evolution contact script doesn't find evolution-addressbook-export

complains that Cannot view file \n No information for viewing PDF
(pdflatex).
Although File - Export - PDF and then clicking on the pdf icon in
Nautilus correctly launches Evince.
