A workaround on 12.10 is to run sudo nm-connection-editor instead of
using the normal NM menu. And, as you edit in the openvpn config dialog,
your terminal will now show validation errors (like 'Invalid setting
VPN: username').

I upgraded to 12.10 successfully and didn't see any graphics problems.
Today, after my laptop was on for a while but not in a position where it
would overheat, I had random colored pixels on the screen and the mouse
position only refreshed a few times. dmesg contains NVRM:

I fixed this by purging a lot of the xserver, dbus, and udev related
packages and reinstalling them. I didn't notice anything else relevant

I hit this too after cheese (reasonably) crashed because my machine was
out of ram. I ran cheese under strace to see what it was doing around
the does not match error, and I found it was talking to some thumbnail
service. Running nautilus ~/.thumbnails to force a proper thumbnail of
every pic in

that causes whatever's wrong with the thumbnails to get fixed.

Here is an attempted workaround, which assumes the .93 version of libbfd
will substitute correctly for the requested .0 version:

That lets oprof_start, but then I get a dialog box with the same error
as 'opcontrol

Like Adam, I have found that when the progress bar stalls at about 10%,
I can hold down a key like shift to get the progress bar to the end.
Letting go at any point makes the progress stop again.
This is on intrepid with either 2.6.27-7.16 or 2.6.27-9.19, 64-bit dual
AMD, on an HP dv9000 laptop.
My device detection also improved when I added the blueman repo. I
haven't tried all the dialup/etc functions, but this fixes my No such
device problem.
