My linux box don't start with gdm and the display have a black screen.
I startup in recovery mode, recovery the damaged packages also recovery the gdm
and check the file systyem.
At next normal startup the gdm is recovered but linux reported this

On a MB (GA/nforce560) I used a Seagate 7200.11 (SATA) and a fresh install of

another one.

I tried above version of NM but could not import the second profile listed at
ftp://ftp.rrzn.uni-hannover.de/pub/local/vpn/profiles_non_windows/
After downloading that .pdf file, choosing it and clicking on Open, the GUI
freezes and nothing happens. I am using Ubuntu 8.10.

thank you for your effort in trying to find out the problem, as you reported in
the other mailing list. It definitely looks like it's a BIOS bug, not a Linux
one. Instead of fixing it with a BIOS upgrade (there were so many since the
initial release), the Acer guys wrote a workaround in

Well I have the same problem as most of you being. I'm using Nokia 6600

The new OOXML files (.docx, .pptx...) are zipfiles indeed. I can

Hi all,
I can confirm this bug too. The cinergy terratec T2 works perfectly
with kaffeine but in totem shows only a black screen (and its blue led

It happens only on battery, cpu usage goes close to 100% for a couple of

I try live CD (no hibernate)
Hibernate is workink in 7.10 (but on power on, screen can to be without prompt,
but if you enter the password it work ok)
In 8.4 suspend work, but the screen is black. I can CTRL+ALT+F1 and press
CTRL+ALT+DEL. The PC reboot OK, but with a black screen. At shutdown
I can confirm, that this problem occurs on the same machine as reported
above (Samsung X11) using OpenSuse 10.2. Also the Fabio-workaround works
there. So this is really an ipw2100 problem, rather than an ubuntu
problem.

I'm working remotely by ssh on ltsp server and on thin client. I've checked all
steps before and they are all ok.
This is the dmesg output on thin client, so usb pen is correctly identified.

When the user log on a thin client that works well and mount cdrom and usb pen,

What's so hard to see that modules being available in the 2.6.20 kernel
packages are missing in the 2.6.22 kernel and/or

No, the prism54 drivers are neither in the 2.6.22-kernel package nor in the
ubuntu-modules package.
With the 2.6.20 kernel I use the modules
lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic/kernel/ubuntu/wireless/p54/prism54common.ko
lib/modules/2.6.20-15-generic/kernel/ubuntu/wireless/p54/prism54pci.ko
but I
It seems the prism54 drivers are also missing (there where present in
the 2.6.20-kernel packages). Is there a reason for not including them in
the current kernel/ubuntu-modules packages?

after upgrading to the 2.6.22 kernel I noticed that the modules for my wlan
adapter are missing (prism54pci,prism54common).
A lot of other wlan modules included in the 2.6.20 kernel-packages are also
missing.

I seem to have fixed the hanging problem by using the older kernel
instead of the one that comes with Feisty. In the boot menu, select
kernel 2.6.15-27-386 instead of 2.6-20-15-386 and firefox will not hang
while browsing pages with flash media (like YouTube).
