it happened to me after this command:
sudo apt-get remove indicator-multiload and reboot.
I read comments above and i reboot again. Problem is fixed now.

ekiga is in English (not localized / translated) in non-English system
This is probably because offline contacts wre NOT shown by default. I
changed the default value to SHOW by default 1-2 years ago. So closing
