WOW! The brainstorm idea must have another hundred or so posts about how
bad the wallpaper is! I wonder if there is a world record for bad
artwork? Intrepid could have a world record on it's hands! Between all
of the posts about the default wallpaper there are thousands that think
it is terrible.
The entire point of the bug report is that an overwhelming number of
people think the wallpaper is horrible. If you looked up the word
hideous in the dictionary it would say "see Ubuntu Intrepid". There has

if the wallpaper had similar colored circles it might look pretty good.

Confirmed. The default wallpaper is terrible and it does not conform to
the Ubuntu look at all. A new ATTRACTIVE theme was promised for this
release and I agree that there is still plenty of time to fix this.

In Ubuntu Hardy I have all of the floppy drive problems mentioned in
this thread.
In Xubuntu Hardy the same floppy drive and disk work as expected.
Both Ubuntu and Xubuntu use the same kernel and gvfs but Xubuntu uses

I applied all of the Hardy updates 05/06/08 and the Network Manager
errors are gone and the Usplash is working on shutdown and re-start! I
have re-booted the pc several times with no problems.

I also reinstalled on a test machine and had the problem as well. I am
sure now that Evolution did not cause the problem, I never used it on
the test pc. It must be a problem with Network Manager.

I just wondered because I have Hardy loaded on three PC's and the only
one that was effected by this problem was the one I was using Evolution
on. It could be Network Manager because the first time the bug appeared
I was able to reinstall Network Manager to resolve it. Reinstalling
Network Manager
I installed Hardy final and so far have not had the usplash problem. I
noticed that the problem occurred if I closed Evolution and the shut
down or restarted. Once the problem has occurred it happens every time
the pc is shut down or restarted.
Could Evolution be the cause of this issue?

The problem was with the network-manager package that was updated. Today
I tried re-installing network-manager and the problem seems to be
resolved. I have asked other user's that were affected by this problem
to try re-installing the package and post their results on the
development section of the
I discovered that if I change GDM Themes a couple of times that Usplash
will work like it is supposed to.
I am wondering if Usplash is being called late, it could be that the
network manager errors are asking to be displayed.
This could be a problem with Network Manager or GDM.

By applications I mean Gimp, Firefox and anything else that should have
the ability to browse the filesystem. Firefox is a good example because
if you need to get to /usr/bin/ to change applications Firefox uses for
say multimedia, there is no way to give it the path.

Here are my computer specs: Biostar Mainboard (VIA Chipset)
Athlon XP 1800+
Onboard VIA Rhine NIC
Onboard VIA Vinal AC-97 Sound
All of the problems I described are with the release candidate. The RC
will load and run but it is a blank black screen all the way to the
desktop.
My work around is to load Tribe 4 and update all packages to the RC. I
think something is wrong with xserver in the release candidate.
