Temp Soloution:
Take the script out of /etc/init.d/vdr and put somewhere in your home dir.

Hi,
I narrowed it down to a vdr problem loading too early, so do you still
want me to test the upstream kernel?
I can confirm it by editing the file:
/usr/lib/vdr/config-loader.conf
# Enable / Disable vdr daemon
ENABLED=0
upon reboot:
sudo /etc/init.d/vdr start
And everything works!
I found
Sorry thats:
/etc/default/vdr
# Change to 1 to enable vdr's init-script
ENABLED=0
then restart
