Update: both Stellarium and Google Earth work again. I wasn't able to
implement the work-around mentioned above, but I did reinstall the
FGLRX-driver. Maybe that's helped, I'm not sure. Thanks anyway.
** Changed in: stellarium (Ubuntu)
Status: New = Fix Committed

I've changed the status to Invalid. I hope that's ok.

I'm afraid I might need a little help with this. I ran
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
and then created xorg.conf in /etc/X11, consisting of the following
lines:
Section Device
Identifier Device0
Driver radeon
Option EnablePageFlip off
EndSection
But after
lshw -c display:
*-display
description: VGA compatible controller
product: RS880 [Radeon HD 4200]
vendor: ATI Technologies Inc
physical id: 5
bus info: p...@:01:05.0
version: 00
width: 32 bits
clock: 33MHz
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: stellarium
The same goes for Google Earth and other graphic programs. Running
Lucid, had no problem under Karmic and before.
ProblemType: Bug
