I had installed Ubuntu Studio 16.04.3 recently after using an upgraded
16.04.2 on the same computer. I had previously installed a full KDE
desktop on top of Ubuntu Studio 16.04.2 and had the same problem
reported here, but I was able to get the icons to show by using the
/etc/environment XDG_CURREN
OOps my last comment was a bit premature. I found another solution other
than replugging the USB mouse. At boot enter your BIOS setup and look
for an Integrated Peripherals section. It's counter intuitive, but
worked for me. I disabled the USB mouse support entry. I have no idea
why this worked but
I've seen this same bug reported in many forums but have NOT been able
to find a solution anywhere other than replugging the USB pointer.
Sometimes other USB pointer issues get mixed in but the common point for
this particular issue is the pointer is never detected at startup but
works fine after u
I ran into this problem recently (March 2009) and discovered the PIL
Image module's _showxv function (called by the show() function) will
also accept eog, gqview or gwenview as viewers besides the nonfree xv. I
just installed gqview and it worked fine for my purposes.

im.show fails in absence
I have a similar problem. Connections from all clients to outside world
(LAN/internet) work. Connections to clients via NAT/host-only interfaces
work too. But when using bridged mode, none of the services on the
client respond to any queries (html, ssh, ...). I'll try the ethtool
trick next week.
