This took down one of my Digital Ocean droplets running Debian 10 (because I
was an idiot and said "yes" to continue when grub reported a failure).
But I was able to fix it similar to Bernd by booting the DO recovery ISO (that
runs Ubuntu), mount my root disk at /mnt, chroot, and then run:

$HOME, I upgrade to 18.04, and all of a sudden this random folder
appears in there. I don't even know what snaps is, nor do I care. Please
invent a time machine, go back to when snaps were first a thought, and

Yes, but the lib is still there, and still unnecessary baggage. Also, as
Marcel pointed out, a set of 'recommended' plugins should not be a
required dependency, so there is still an issue here, but I'll let you
guys decide what you want to do from here.

depend on libtrackerclient? I can see that this would be a desired
library if tracker is installed, but what if I want to get rid of
tracker? Totem is the only thing standing

Could you provide a little bit more info on #3? Are you using a TV tuner
and something like mythTV? Are you trying to watch TV on a website, like
abc, or nbc? Provide the exact steps to get to where you are at with it
being 'stopped'.
