Same issue here, Jaunty RC on a Macbook 3,1. From reading around on the
net, I'm not convinced this is particularly an Ubuntu problem but a Mac
/ rEFIt problem, and sadly not one that there's a solution to.

Not sure if this is actually xfce4-mixer or some Pulseaudio-related
thing. Either way, in xfce4-mixer I get the option of one device - HDA
Intel which has no controls. Consequently the associated XFCE Panel
applet doesn't do anything useful either.
The same hardware is

I'm afraid I don't have a share which requires authentication to test
that too. The share is accessible
Just tried it - and the gid, for good measure - and neither affects the
result. Still getting the same Permission Denied error.

My sound card, a Realtek ALC6628 Hi-Definition Audio 5.1 CODEC doesn't
seem to be detected under Hardy Alpha 2. hardinfo doesn't show a
working sound card. No controls are shown in GNOME ALSA Mixer, and
going to the Sound card Config menu option crashes the app.
