As best I can recall, when I started using Ubuntu, with version 8.04,

was already claimed by the first domain. I only set the port during
initial installation, so I'm not sure why it doesn't just try port 5901.

no. the problem was solved a few days later. i did submit a response
saying it was fixed after you responded asking me to try again as 1 of
the mirrors may have been at fault. though i don't see your response or
my further response on this bug anymore. you can close the report.
