I think I found what was wrong for me : it's the ethernet atl1c driver !
I had freezes on 12.04 and on 12.10. I unpluged my ethernet, that used
atl1c driver, and only use wifi now, and no more random freezes.
As I could find on the net, atl1c is still marked as experimental ! They

I've just tried Ubuntu 12.10 alpha, with 3.4 kernel, and used vesa video
dirver for my nvidia card. So no 3D, nothing special. I've used it 5
minutes, then complete freeze again ! :-(
I only tried to install synaptic using Software Center and was waiting
for it to install. So really basic
Sorry not to follow your theory, but I have a Sandy Bridge with
dedicated CG and memory and I have hard freezes. So I'm not really sure
it's linked to integrated graphics.

Ok it's a hardware bug. But from Warty to to Jaunty it was possible to
workaround this by assigning manually which channel should controled by
the applet and the multimedia buttons.

I have exactly the same problem. When I plug in a vfat external usb HDD,
Nautilus freezes during about 30 secondes before I can do something
(except using other programs like firefox). The window of hdd content
opens, but nothing appears and I have the waiting cursor.

I don't really know if it works or not. I can't hear the HDD scratching,
it's very fast (1s), but results are only from Home, and not from all
the tracker's Watch directories. And it doesn't show the text files

My interfaces are ok, eth0 and eth1, on Dell Inspion 9400.
But today, gutsy doesn't recognize my kill switch button... It's a

I can confirm this, with many games, pidgin, OOo, baobab, xchat, gthumb, root
terminal, vlc, rhythmbox... icons
It appens when I use the Tango Industrial GTK theme.
Icons don't become fuzzy as soon as the theme is choosen, but it needs a

Same here, with a canon lide 30 :

It's recognized, but doesn't work at all. Nothing is previewed and
nothing is scanned.
This scanner works perfectly with dapper and edgy.
