I have the very same issue on the 20121017.5 live image, downloaded from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20121017.5 (MD5 sum was verified
after download).
My system is a PowerMac G5 Quad. So it doesn't appear to be specific to the
PowerBook G4's hardware.
After booting the console is slowly

sorry to bring up this old bug but i think i have a regression using
today's daily lubuntu on a 15 powerbook g4 powerpc. same symptoms.
busybox wont' let me do much but i can uname-a and this gives me 3.5
which is clearly greater than 3.4, so that doesn't appear to be the fix.

It looks like only the i386 and amd64 kernels are on those links (unless
I am missing or misunderstanding something?). Also, I can't seem to find
the source for those kernels. I going to try to compile the 3.4.4 kernel
to see if it trips up, and see if I can identify what is causing it.

I don't think old iso images are kept around. We may be able to identify the
kernel that introduce this regression by testing some upstream kernels around
May 10th. All of the upstream kernels are available for download from:

I wanted to see if you have tried any of the recent daily images, and if
so, does this bug still exist? If it does, I'd like to compare the
kernel versions in the last daily image that worked and the first daily
that didn't work.

The live image from today (/daily-live/20120619/) still gives the same
error. I had another image from 5-27-2012 that started up with the error
stdin: error 0 (I think is what it said), if that helps any.
So, the last working image I had was from /daily-live/20120510/, and the
first time

The 12.04 live image never booted. However, it got further than the
12.10 live image. The 12.04/Precise live image froze when looking for
wireless firmware.
I have 12.04 Precise installed on this system (from alternate image) and
it boots fine after fixing the wireless firmware issue.

I can't seem to find the official MD5SUM posted for the 30-May-2012
image, however, I tried the 2-June-2012 image and it still gives the
same error.
md5sum for the June 2 appears to return the correct value:
