EDIT UPDATE *** Shutter seems to work like normal after killing it from Terminal; $ killall shutter -9 and even tested by calling Shutter from the CLI and successfully takes a screenshot without turning screen black with just mouse cursor. This is only a temporary fix measure when it plays up.

The driver version shouldn't be the only reason, 12.11 is actually the latest version available and still it works here. Also Unity shouldn't be the only reason, since Greg has the bug using KDE. I would rather suspect that the problem is in the ubuntufied version of the driver from Ubuntu's
