Laura Czajkowski, as per
http://www.toshiba.co.uk/innovation/download_bios.jsp?service=UK an
update is available for your BIOS (1.80). If you update to this, does it
change anything?
If not, could you please provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version

It's still having issues when plugged in and still around 72. I'm hoping to
find someone at UDS to help further debug this.

[toshiba Z830] [Quantal] Fans no longer
Laura Czajkowski, using my own Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934 as an
example, at ~100 C the PC would turn off due to overheat. One would be
entering problem territory ~93 C. Howver, while 86 C is bordering on
higher than desired, I've had no problem running it around that in
Quantal. I just had to
Christopher, when it is at 71 there is no fans running.
Yes I did look at the work around but I'd be more interested in finding
a solution also. I will try it with a precise live cd in a week when
back in the UK.thanks for the help though.

[toshiba Z830] [Quantal] Fans no longer working and cooling machine
christopher I can't be sure I had the laptop only a few weeks on precise
and it was new. Since upgrading to Q it's just been a nightmare with
temperature always at 71 degrees and often sits at 86 most days.
I've tried different kernels and still the fans are not coming on early
enough to stop it
I should add I've tried the following:
3.5.0-17
3.2.0-22
3.0.0-15
Fans do come on when it reaches 86 degrees but not for long and then
goes back to sitting at 71

Laura Czajkowski, did this issue not occur in a release prior to
Quantal?
As a potential WORKAROUND, if your CPU sensors approach overheat/auto-shutdown,
you could governor your CPUs by executing the following via a terminal:
sudo cpufreq-selector --cpu=0 --governor=powersave sudo

[toshiba Z830] [Quantal] Fans no longer
@Laura -- we need to identify what if any kernel this worked for in
12.04. You should be able to download and install the latest 12.04
kernel and run it against your quantal userspace. You can find those
kernels in the version page for the linux package:
