Possibly I was on kubuntu 6.10, not on 7.10. The ugrade was to Kubuntu
7.10. Strange: I thought /etc/issue.net reported 7.10 before the
upgrade.

I confirm this problem on kubuntu feisty (7.04) on a Toshiba satellite
1900-102 (x86, Pentium M 1.7). It's a box I maintain. Gonna upgrade to
8.04 and post here if this happens again. So long...!

That is an odd one, I didn't have the issue and I have been through
Breezy, Dapper, Edgy, Feisty, and now Gutsy on one machine without every
having to update. Luck? :) Anyways, since you found the fix for this,
and this hasn't been reported previously, I am going to go ahead and
close the report.
