Clean and fresh only a week old and same symptoms since the initial
installation.

i followed downgrade instructions, brought X11 down altogether, had to
recover and remove fglrx-legacy.
with older X11 and NO fglrx-legacy it seems to works somehow but no OpenGL
again.

12.04 LTS will most likely work with hd 4200, it works with my amd 4570
(same hd 4000 series) with 13.1 (previously 12.6) amd drivers. 12.04
will be supported for 5 years, i.e. until 2017.
