Chris, I can't find the TLB Invalidate bug. Can you link to it from this
bug please? I would like to help contribute to that one if that's the
root cause.

If everybody is focusing on the TLB invalidate bug (that *is* also in
3.5.0-23-generic) then we may as well close this report.

The same bug occurs for me using the linux-image-generic kernel version
3.5.0-26. I experience frequent apport error messages (I had to turn it
off), degraded performance, and GPU hangs which necessitate a reboot. I
am now using 3.5.0-23-generic, and the problem no longer occurs. I am
using an Inte
Just in case that's useful, here's my i915_error_state too. I understand
that it's fixed in Raring but Raring has not been released yet so for
all users who do not fancy upgrading to a pre-release version, is there
a way to backport the fix? The reason I ask is because the bug is really
debilitatin
I meant mask the problem :)
But i was quite happy to mask it as it was a real nightmare... (remind me the
good old days of MS bsod :) )
Will try installing raring.

In the meantime you can try revert to kernel 3.5.0-25. That did solve
the problem for me.

That error-state points to the TLB invalidate bug, fixed in the raring
kernel (v3.8).

I have not much knowledge about this stuff, but as I experienced a huge
increase of gpu hanges in the last days too (probably after the same
kernel update as mentioned here) and the automatically bug reportage
seems to not work (some problems with the /usr/share/apport/apport-gpu-
error-intel.py) I
There is no way for me to tell which bug this is - all I am stating is
that given the number of hangs that have been fixed, in all likelihood
we have already fixed it in recent packages. Without the
i915_error_state, this report is too vague.

I'm not an expert, I only like Ubuntu Philosofy, but is really hard
for me to manage the problem that Bruno Girin explains (better then
me). Everithing started after the update of 20th March.

Chris, is there a possibility to backport the fix to Quantal? It really
makes the computer difficult to use as it hangs every few minutes, in
particular when scrolling. This has been happening to me since the
kernel update on Wednesday 20th March (when this bug was first
reported).
What info is re
There is no i915_error_state here which is vital for diagnosing a GPU
hang. At any rate, this is already fixed in raring.
