Sorry folks, but, as part of the bug clean up ahead of 16.04 LTS, I'm
marking this as invalid because it affects an Ubuntu release which is
now unsupported. If you can still recreate this bug in a supported
release, please do open a new bug and we can triage it for consideration
in the 16.04 LTS

Unity: login-screen background freezes
I just realized the following:
I had desktop icons disabled (Unity Tweak Tool - System - Desktop
Icons - off). Once I enable desktop icons, the bug disappears (a
restart + login now shows the correct wallpaper). So the bug might not
be hardware related.
If this 'solves' the problem for you, too,

I agree in that this bug is a duplicate of bug #1115886. But by marking
it as such, please be so fair and change the status of the latter. Bug
#1115886 has status 'invalid' which is definitely not true!

I confirm this bug on my EliteBook 6930p after upgrading from 12.10

To all affected by this bug: Can you please mark this bug as affecting
you? (because I think they put more emphasis on fixing it if it affects
multiple users). Thanks.
I'm still (negatively) surprised by this bug: Although the Lenovo X1
Carbon (as many other Lenovos) is officially certified for
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

I can confirm this bug also affects me on a System76 Lemur laptop
running 13.04. However, in my case after a minute or so the screen
reverts to proper background image. Previously, I had the exact same
problem that you described where the background did not revert to the
user-selected image but I
I can confirm this bug both on my Lenovo X1 and a custom built desktop
computer.
