I notice your SATA controller is an ICH5 so you are probably seeing Bug #116996
. See Bug #117587 for an example of how to workaround the issue or wait for
another kernel release.

Although I cannot decipher exactly that bug 116996 is really about,
changing my fstab to use UUIDs fixed the problem. If the underlying
issue is indeed fixed by the next kernel release, this bug can be
