Some more googling gave me this workaround.
```sudo apt-get -o Dpkg::Options::=--force-overwrite install
gdb-arm-none-eabi```

To clarify: When I say gdb in the report I mean GDB for a native
target - that is for AMD64 target. gdb-arm-none-eabi is a cross-
debugger: GDB for ARM targets (but still for AMD64 *hosts*!).
