Could you try to install the latest ndiswrapper-version from
http://ndiswrapper.sf.net (1.49rc1 at the time of this writing) and use the
other driver that didn't work again.
Please also provide a link to this driver, if possible.
If it still doesn't work you can help to make ndiswrapper even

well as gutsy amd64 until a week ago...

Oh, forgot to mention that blacklisting the ndiswrapper module still
resulted in bootup deadlocking. But, manually deleting
'/lib/modules/2.6.22-10-generic/ubuntu/misc/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper.ko'
allowed the system to boot properly...
