The problem there is that clicking on the x should actually exit it
and not closing it.
Currently the only way to exit boinc manager is to click on the file
menu.

I see nothing with the words Exit BOINC manager anywhere in the
application. It's not in the menu, not in any of the tabs, and not in
the unity right click menu.
How can you say that it's a known bug and then the next day that it's
the intended behaviour?

Sorry I'm the debian and ubuntu maintainer, I was experiencing this bug
something like one year ago, I reported it upstream, and they fixed it.
I tried again yesterday and it was reproducible.
I thought it was a regression,
