Note that the modules rt73usb and rt2500usb should not *both* be
loading. Try removing both modules, and then loading *only* rt73usb:
sudo rmmod rt73usb rt2500usb
sudo modprobe rt73usb
If that works for you, you can then add rt2500usb to
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist to ensure it doesn't load in

Well problem is I had this bug and I tried various fixes. In the end I
think it is something to do with the wireless config not the kernel. For
me this bug was fixed by chance.
I had it that if I used the live cd then I'd get a connection but if I
installed then I could not connect.
In fact by

Another confirmation comment. From livecd ( 7.10 x86 ) I was able to
scan wireless networks, after installing on the computer it can't enable
wireless with message 'phy2 - rt2500usb_enable_radio: Error - Register
initialization failed'

Wi-Fi rt73 USB (TP-Link TL-WN321G) doesn't connect
My Belkin rt73 usb stick worked fine (out of the box) for a good while
(in Gutsy tribe) until 3-4 weeks ago, now no longer works. The 'Wireless
connection' still appears in NM with the correct settings, but the
device does not even blink.

I confirm that after i boot from live cd , my usb wireless adapter (tl-
wn321g) show the wireless network and can connect perfectly so I install
ubuntu gusty beta. I found it works.
After that i just install ubuntu again on same computer but it doesn't work. It
( tl-wn321g) cannot scan the
when I was tty1. I try to plug out and plug in , when I plug it in there
is a meesage phy2 - rt2500usb_enable_radio : Error - Register
initialization failed
and then I plug out and plug in again phy2 change to phy3
