failures on Intrepid, along with the full output from startx and the
/etc/X11/xorg.conf that you used?
Also, just in case, can you also see what happens if you run with no
xorg.conf? (Boot the live cd, then sudo mv

Not sure why this is filed against -ati when it should be against -r128.
