I have just upgraded to hardy and now it works flawlessly.
I've just launched sudo dpkg-reconfigure -plow xserver-xorg and the file it
created works well (I suppose that now it's autodetecting everything, since it
didn't ask me anymore for my video card and monitor).

Same problem, my monitor is LG-L194WT-SF and fresh Gutsy installation. However,
I managed to get correct resolution with following config:

Hi,
just to let you know that using alessandro's config file here didn't
solve the problem in my setup (using a monitor LG-L194WT-SF). Using the
xorg.conf provided didn't output 1440x900 but started at 1024x768
instead as xrandr reports no resolution above 1024x768 available :-?
Using my
Great, thanks guys. I'll let you know when we think we have a fix to
test.

Alessandro's config fixes the problem. Option DDC must also be set to
false for this to work (I had this line commented out, I don't know if
by default or due to my tinkering). Thanks!

Alessandro, are you certain your display is squished like
fstafforini's, or is it possible yours is offset? If the latter, than
it's probably a different bug.
In any case, it looks like the issue is an incorrect modeline:
Modeline1440x900 106.5 1440 1520 1672 1904 900 903 909
It is definitely squished.
Here are the required files.

I'm able to get the right 1440x900 only using the attached xorg.conf.
It is quite strange, because gdm starts at 1024x768 and the gnome session does
that too, but i I change the resolution to 1440x900 using randr it gets
correctly set.
