Hi! Some friends on a french forum find a way to correct this problem :
http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=154950
So, it's in french but a command line is multilanguage, isn't it ? ;)
We think thas multiple changes between kernel, module nvidia drivers are
guilty. And maybe the
muzah, it seems your problem is not the same according to your
Xorg.0.log.
I'm closing the bug for now as everyone solved it and it definitely
looks like an update problem. If anyone is not satisfied with it, please
feel free to re-open it.

Hmm. I'm going to speculate that this is a depmod problem. The dmesg
added by Emanuel shows no sign of the NVIDIA module being loaded at all
so depmod is the first place to start.

If I were you I would start following the debugging steps outlined in other
similar bugs (e.g.
Emanuel:
Oh and can you indicate how you installed the NVIDIA drivers on your previous
install (did you use restricted-manager or did you use a 3rd party tool or
compile the drivers by hand?)

Thanks to Sitsofe Wheeler, Kernel 2.6.20-14 is running well, with the
restricted nvidia drivers.
I just typed
sudo depmod
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm restart
and everything worked.
I hope this was just an Update-Problem an will no longer appear in the
final Release.
P.S.: I installed the nvidia

First a question: Is it a difference if I post lspci with the -14 or the

Attached is the one under -12
At www.kubuntu-de.org somebody postet a problem with the same Symptoms I
asked him to post the Xorg.0.org, but I still hope I`m the only one who
run into this.

Hi Emanuel,
Could you please post your full kernel version (the output of uname -a) ? I've
had this problem myself and it was only due to the restricted modules packages
being released a bit too late on repositories... You say restricted modules are
installed, but I want to make sure they are
