Well, I made the change. It took a few tries until I figured it out
(e.g., I don't have nano; I have gedit), but I made the change and
installed the latest updates. The only problem is that now when I boot
I get an unwanted OS selection menu from linux. Now I have to try to
figure out how to
Hi Phillip (I am asssuming you are a person and not a computer),
Perhaps instead of saying "you edited your ...grub file ...and fouled it
up" you should write "your grub file was edited ...and fouled up" since
I (me, the person) did not edit the grub file. I don't even know what a
grub file is.
Rather than add a second set of quotes, you need to just move it to be
within the first set. That is, move the end quote to the end of the
line instead of being in the middle of it.
You can edit it by running "sudo nano /etc/default/grub" and entering
your password.

Thanks, Phillip, that is a great help. I really appreciate it.
As I said, I am new to Ubuntu/Linux, and so far I am really impressed.
I love figuring things out, but with a four-year-old and other time
commitments, it is really tough to find the time to learn all the fine
details. I have found
You edited your /etc/default/grub file and fouled it up:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
usbhid.quirks=0x0c45:0x7603:0x4
The option you added at the end needs to be within the quotes.
