I think this issue might also be device-specific. I tried `lubuntu-16.04-desktop-i386.iso` in Virtualbox and "check disc for defects" worked normally. On older laptop I only got blue screen. I noticed that at one point when I pressed some arrow key with intention of getting out of the splash and
