Aaron, thanks for doing the fix. I think we should apply this fix in the
Ubuntu package. Most users do not install packages directly from
upstream, so the reporter of this bug would need to wait another 6
months to get his printing fixed. And I will make a new HPLIP package
anyway to apply Don's
Although this is a low priority patch here it is. This patch will be in
the next HPLIP release.
The hplip-2.8.2_dj895_powerup.patch will send a power up command if the
printer is powered off. Before this fix the user had to manually power
up the printer. The fix only applies to older printers

The power on problem seems to be a problem of the hp backend because
the usb backend does the power-on properly. I have added an upstream
task and also subscribed more HP developers.
