this crash is caused by memory exhaustion and there is (rarely) a graceful way
out for such an event. The spec
calls for a minimum of 256MB for that reason. Given that the live cd and its
use of unionfs is a special case
version of the O/S, this will not be fixed.

Not sure why but this CD won't even boot on that laptop. I'll try a
later version or another disc when I have time.
This is a very minor bug though, if only the team was on the case for
bug 236389 which remains unseen despite being completely destabilizing

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

Hardy Heron Alpha2 was recently released. It contains an updated
version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron
Alpha2 release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-2/ .
You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you

Thank you for the update. If either of you are able to resolve your RAM

I'm sorry! In deed only 128 MB of memory were installed. The memory
upgrade i had installed somehow broke, because Windows is also telling
me that there are only 128 MB installed. How about programming a feature
checker into the boot cd to check if the right amount of RAM is
installed?

I have observed a nearly identical error while booting from the 7.10 install
CD. (Googling lead me to this thread.) See attachment.
But I found out that my laptop only had 128MB memory, while the requirement is
256MB. So on my laptop this symptom is a feature, not a bug.

I haven't tried 7.04, but I tried 6.06.1 right after and that worked.
I'm sorry but right now I don't have my notebook at reach. I will be at
home on the weekend to try your suggestions.

Thanks Hogliux. Just a few more questions:

2) I'm curious if you are able to capture any more information that may be
output before and after the crash? For example when you first see the boot
progress bar can you press Control+A
