what definitely works well for me is to configure a rpi3 with wired only, finish the setup, ssh into teh board, run "sudo console-conf", disable eth0, set up wlan0, finish console-conf, reboot and watch my DHCP server (or the serial console of the Pi) to get the new IP ... this is currently the
