System -- Preferences -- Printing gives the following error dialog
window:
The CUPS server could not be contacted.
The Synaptic Package Manager shows several 'cups' packages loaded:
including 4 cupsys-*, several foomatic-*, gimp-print, gnome-cups-manager, and
Do not report your problems by adding a comment to a stone-old bug which
was already closed. Better open a new bug report in such a case.
The bug you encountered is already reported as bug #92205 (which is
already fixed).

Yes, I have been trying to get this worked out over the past several
weeks.
When in GNOME, I get the CUPS SERVER error and can not get in to
configure the printer. When in KDE, I can add a printer, print a test
page, but when trying to print from an application the only printer
choice I have is

Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock
in /etc/cups/cups.d/ports.conf
