Might be TLP related - to test, enable ubuntu budgie backports via budgie-welcome recommendations. Do a full update. Then uninstall tlp. This will also uninstall the UB meta package "ubuntu-budgie-desktop" - dont worry about that. Before you upgrade to 17.10 just reinstall that package. If

Was a bit euphoric about the workaround. Suspend does not work even with pm-utils installed. The machine blanks the display but other than that works continuously. With the lid closed, the laptop might overheat. So this issue is endangering the hardware. Current workaround: Don't suspend, turn
