There firewall is ok. But I found that something got messed up when trying to connect to the VPN from inside our office. The VPN should be used outside the office of course, but I just wanted to test it. I don't know why, but it started working after doing "apt purge --auto-remove

I use 1.3.12 of xl2tpd and I cannot see any logs about "udp_xmit" in my log file. I have attached my log file where I replaced my vpn server IP. The same VPN works fine from my other computer with Ubuntu 16.04. This computer is upgraded from 16.04 to 18.04. ** Attachment added:

Can you confirm you are seeing the "udp_xmit failed ... with err=-1:No such device" error ? If you are, this is not a network-manager-l2tp bug, but a kernel 4.15 bug, I posted a xl2tpd bug report and workaround patch for Ubuntu 18.04's xl2tpd package almost a month before Bionic Beaver was
