I have the same problem with a IBM T61 running Kubuntu 64 bit Hardy
2.6.24.2 kernel with a Quadro NVS 140M card No splash no ability to
run VT terminals on boot or after.

I can confirm that Alpha 2 still has this bug. I can bypass it by using
Harvey's method: removing splash from the boot parameter. I also have
the same laptop as Harvey, so he will also experience the black screen
with the new kernel.

Hardy Heron Alpha2 was recently released. It contains an updated
version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron
Alpha2 release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-2/ .
You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you

All of the above logs were generated while in the LiveCD X environment,
after removing splash from the LiveCD boot parameters. If the xorg
related files and logs are of interest, I have saved them also.
