I have not had sound since I installed Hardy Heron.
Gutsy worked OK. In system/preferences/sound under device it shows HDA intel
(alsa mixer)
In Heron device is blank

Problem may have been resolved in newer daily builds. Testers who

Ok, I fixed my issue by switching from my philips psc605 (i think it is)
to the nvidia onboard chip. I get system sounds, flashplayer plays
sounds (youtube) and rbox etc will play sounds. You have to choose the
card in sound preferences if you can switch. I have to say that music
playback is
This problem is cured in my case by additionally muting the 3d control
'depth' control in volume control gui. Hope that might help some...

I have the same problem on Hardy sounds play in Rbox but I have no
system sounds at GDM login, startup, or in sysprefsound. Also don't
have sound playing youtube even though I have the latest flashplayer
installed accourding to firefox about:plugins. Any help appreciated

I'm experiencing similar problems (totem plays sound, other apps don't
except for flashplayer sometimes). On my system this is also a
regression compared to 7.10.
I'll check my logs when I have the time, to confirm this bug.

Correction. I said: On 8.04 alpha, I have Totem sound but no
application sound . . ., but I meant to say that I have Totem sound but
no system sounds. That is, Totem plays the Ubuntu example .ogg video
with sound, but the system sounds are not produced at all. I also want
to emphasize that
