Found the fix on the interwebs -

sudo apt remove indicator-appmenu
And then after rebooting there will be some errant entries in the top menu.
Press Windows key + alt key and right mouse click and remove the errant
This is not fixed. After a day installing Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS and Gnome
flashback I discovered many apps are missing menus.

You can Alt + right-click on that applet and remove it from panel, then
the menu will return to the window. Also you can re-add that applet to
the top panel if you want.

I just installed Ubuntu 20.04 in VM, from default desktop installed GNOME
Flashback:
apt-get install gnome-session-flashback
Logged out, changed session to GNOME Flashback (Metacity) and logged in.
Opening LibreOffice Writer I do have menu bar. Restarted VM and still

It is missing from the application itself. For LibreOffice a possible
workaround is to install it without Gnome oder GTK3 integration. Hope
