I had the same error message. I DID interrupt the installation as my
wireless connection had dropped just as I passed the command to the
shell. I ran the command as you suggested to the gentleman above; the
output is as follows:

Hello,
Sorry, on friday evening I had a very big problem after an update of
Ubuntu Intrepid RC and was unable to restart my computer and login :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/279450
As I found no other solution, I reinstall from a fresh and clean Iso of
the Intrepid Release
Hello,
Thanks for your answer.
Error occured when I upgraded (on Intrepid beta).

It looks like the post removal script is failing. Can you run it
Hello,
I also got this error message when I tried to update Ubuntu Intrepid
today (in french) :
E: /var/cache/apt/archives/fast-user-switch-
applet_2.24.0-0ubuntu4_i386.deb: le sous-processus nouveau script post-
removal a retourné une erreur de sortie d'etat 1
and I did not stop the upgrade :
It looks like the post removal script is failing. Can you run it with more
debug by doing this:
sudo sh -x /var/lib/dpkg/info/fast-user-switch-applet.postrm
Thanks.

You received this bug
Could you try to run this again, a keyboard interrupt seems to have cause this
to stop, rather than the package itself failing to install for some valid
reason.
Thanks, David P.
