Hi Glenn, That first screenshot in comment #17 is most telling. It shows the BIOS screen is rendered half right and half wrong. So given some of the problems persist in the BIOS screen (when no OS is running) AND in Windows 10, I think it's likely the screen is faulty and needs replacing. But

I did not want to actually install Ubuntu. I wanted to be able to run it and see how it has progressed since I last used 12.04 from 2012 till 2016 on 3 x machines that were formerly Win XP. In summary then, my hardware is suspected to be the issue, and if I want to progress to see if the Wayland

OK. You would need to install Ubuntu before you can choose Wayland. But it's not guaranteed to fix things. And if you see related problems in Windows 10 then it sounds like the hardware is faulty :( Maybe not badly faulty... if the problem is just incorrect timing info in the monitor's EDID.

Next time you boot Ubuntu, please try not only 'Ubuntu on Wayland' but also different screen resolutions in Settings. I would like to know if the problem is specific to the native mode of the LCD panel or happens in other modes too. It sounds like this might be a hardware issue, especially if
