I have this problem with the Hardy beta. Changing the resolution
manually in /etc/usplash.conf to the native resolution of my monitor and
then running sudo update-usplash-theme usplash-theme-ubuntu fixed the
problem for me. The correct setting was auto detected whenever I
installed fresh copies
Thanks for your comment. Since this report does not seem to describe a
real genuine bug, I set the status to invalid but if you can reproduce
this bug even if you did run sudo update-initramfs -u, feel free to
set back the status of the bug to new. Thanks.

Thanks for this bug report. Did you run sudo update-initramfs -u to
update the initramfs? This happens automatically when you update your
linux kernel but otherwise, this is always needed to type this command
to apply modifications in /etc/usplash.conf .
