Is it possible to force the kbd driver without using 'Option
AutoAddDevices false'?
It seems that X is not using HAL at all after applying this option. But
i only want to use kbd.
Isn't it possible to teach HAL not to configure evdev but kbd instead?

evdev grabs all devices even if it's
The upstream developers realize this is a bug in evdev 1.2, which is
why it's been fixed in evdev 2.0.
I think Jeffrey was talking about just the lack of Emulate3Buttons,
which is now present in evdev in Intrepid. I don't see anything in its
man page about disabling evdev entirely.
I'd still
set 'Option AutoAddDevices false' in ServerFlags, then input-hotplug
will not be used and you can configure the devices in xorg.conf as you
like.

If it's fixed in evdev 2.0 this bug can be closed, since intrepid has
2.0.3 now, and input-hotplug turned on.

Ok, if you could find which commit made it not load evdev then that can
be added to the current driver.

Do be reasonable. You're saying this is OK because, instead of the
chording I've been using for 15 years, I can now switch to clicking the
scroll wheel? And to do this thing, all I need is a program which is
not even packaged in Ubuntu? That's just silly. The upstream
developers realize this
Added the hal package to this bug because it seems like hal may be
trying to force evdev.

You received this bug notification because
You've probably copied the input-hotplug fdi-file to /etc/hal/fdi/policy
(or /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor)? It's not used by default.
for the record, my MX Revolution works perfectly with it.

I only have the package maintainers files in that directory:
hannibal% ls -l /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor
total 92
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 266 2008-03-07 00:25 10-cpufreq.fdi
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1626 2008-03-07 00:25 10-dell-laptop-brightness.fdi
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 720
Also, contrary to the previous assertion, evdev does not work
perfectly with the MX Revolution. There's no emulated middle button
and therefore no way to paste!

You received this bug notification because you
There's no need to emulate it, since it has a middle button. You just
need to program it to use it by default and not change the scroll mode.
Check this tool:
http://goron.de/~froese/revoco/
it allows you to set a treshold for the mouse wheel to change the scroll
mode. Very, very handy.
